Welcome to
ohakune carrot park
Welcome to the Ohakune Carrot Park Website.
This award winning park was developed from a railway wasteland into a wonderful recreation area.
This page is still being developed so please be patient with us!
The Big Carrot (the tallest carrot in the world) was installed in 1984 and became an international icon for the area and New Zealand.
The area is famous for the root vegetables it supplies nationally from February to November.
There are large statues of the five main vegetables – carrot, potato, swede, brussels sprout, parsnip – in the Park, with information panels about the eating qualities of the vegetables.
Along with toilets and parking, the Park has playground equipment, BBQs, picnic tables, covered gym equipment, an obstacle course, biking and walking tracks, a long flying fox, and a big Carrot Rocket
Walking through the Park takes you past interesting signage acknowledging the early Chinese market gardeners, the Forestry and the Railway.
There are over 2000 native plants and 300 rhododendrons to walk past along the Mangateitei River.
